Imperial Ball 2013 – Panda Magic at Fairmont Royal York on May 25
Raising Funds to Build a Heritage Hall at Chinese Cultural Centre

Toronto, May 7, 2013 – Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCC) will be hosting the Imperial Ball 2013 on Saturday,May 25 at the Fairmont Royal York (100 Front Street West, Toronto) to raise funds to build a Heritage Hall. Panda Magic is the theme of this year's gala. This is to celebrate the arrival of a pair of cuddly giant pandas, Da Mao and Er Shun, in Canada. The grand opening of the Giant Panda Exhibit will be on May 18.

Dr. Ming-Tat Cheung, Chairman and President of CCC, remarked "It has been almost 30 years since a pair of giant pandas were on loan from China for a short period in 1985. This time the giant pandas will be at the Toronto Zoo for five years first, and another five years in Calgary. This initiative is the worldwide efforts in conservation, education and research of endangered species like giant pandas. We are committed to be the Home for the West to meet the East and the Past to meet the Future. It is important to let our young people continue our mission. Gala proceeds of this year will continue to be for building a Heritage Hall to showcase the centenary legacy of Chinese Canadians in Ontario, to create a focal point for educational and cultural programs, as well as to share the rich Chinese heritage with our younger generations."

Over 30 reputable organizations and business corporations have pledged their support this year. Rolex Boutique at Royal de Versailles is once again the Presenting Sponsor of the Imperial Ball. DFC Auto Group; Philip Leong, RBC Dominion Securities; and RBC Royal Bank continue to be the Honorary Patrons (list of other major sponsors appended). Royal de Versailles will donate unique jewellery valued over $20,000 for live auction together with two executive first class round-trip air tickets to any destination in Asia plus 2-night hotel accommodation by Air Canada. Toronto Zoo, now home of Da Mao and Er Shun from China, will donate a pair of plush giant pandas for live auction and many more smaller ones for charity sales. Those who bring home these adorable plush pandas will have the opportunity to win a round-trip air ticket to China. Silent auction items include Chinese paintings, round-trip air ticket to China plus land package tour, 50" Plasma HDTV, coupons of various cuisines, fine wines, golf club memberships, entertainment facilities and cultural exhibition admissions tickets, brand names gift certificates, and many more.

Co-Chairing the 19th annual fundraising gala are Gloria Lo, Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), Robert Fotheringham, Senior Vice President of the TMX Group and John Man, CCC Advisor.

One of the highlights of the Panda Magic is the feature performance by an acrobatic troupe from Sichuan, homeland of giant pandas. They will showcase the world famous changing faces, magic, flying forks, contortion, whip technology, diabolo skills, etc. Furthermore, dancers from the School of Toronto City Ballet and Apex Shaolin Chinese Martial Arts Academy will stage a themed performance to kick start the Imperial Ball.

Toronto Zoo, Cultural and Community Alliance Partner of CCC, and Federation of Canadian Sichuanese Associates are the Special Entertainment Sponsors while Steam Kitchen is Reception Sponsor.

The fundraiser is expected to draw about six hundred patrons comprising senior business executives, professionals, community leaders and representatives from all levels of government. Gala tickets are $380 (regular) and $450 (VIP) each while the cost for a corporate table is $4,500.
